Bitter Sweet poster

The Bitter Sweet poster was made by previous students at our school and Annie and I liked this as we could take inspiration from the techniques used.

  • Lighting: The single candle  is effective because it illuminates the girl's menacing expression, and the flame makes her skin appear reddish orange like she is the devil.
  • Typography: The 'BitterSweet' title at the top is white which is good because it is legible against the black background. The smoky dragging effect works well with the picture because connotes to the audience the supernatural genre as it resembles haunting ghosts. Also, the 'Coming Soon' at the bottom matches the main title which adds consistency which my poster will also have as it looks professional. The slogan on the right is pink which fits in with the candles and stands out against the background. However, I personally would have made it orange to fit in with the colour of her face as people simply glancing at the poster will not be able to tell the pink fits in with the candles, as the candles are not the main focus.
  • The production companies at the bottom of the poster make it look more professional, and acts as power behind discourse as the audience will be persuaded to watch Bittersweet because it comes from top production companies.
  • Picture: I like this picture because of the girl's ominous expression and the reddish orange glow, as previously discussed. Also, the contrast of her expression being 'bitter' and the cake below her as the 'sweet' denotes the title 'Bittersweet'.
Overall, I really like this poster, the picture is eye-catching and connotes the gist of the plot - perhaps a demonic killer girl who initially appears sweet but it obviously not. The white typography works very well with the poster and genre - however, one thing I would change would be the colour of the slogan to orange to match the picture. Also, I would add movie titles at the bottom of the poster because conventionally all professional blockbuster films feature that and would make the audience feel that this is a top-quality film.
