Todorov's theory in relation to our film

Todorov: The five narrative stages:
  1. A state of equilibrium
  2. A disruption.
  3. Recognition of the disruption.
  4. An attempt to repair the damage of the disruption.
  5. Return/Restoration of a new equilibrium
Implementing that into our film idea:
  1. Equilibrium: The sinners are going about their daily life, committing the sin with no regards to the consequences.
  2. Disruption: The priest sees how they are sinning and begins killing them.
  3. Recognition: The sinners which have not been killed yet are able to identify how they are sinners and wish for the priest's mercy.
  4. Repair: News spreads of the priest and two protagonists (similar to the TV show Supernatural) attempt to kill the priest (not shown in the trailer).
  5. New Equilibrium: The priest is killed and people are no longer living in fear (not shown in the trailer).
We have decided not to show the last two points in the trailer as the main focus is on the killings, not the 'saving' because the audience must not discover what happens at the end from the trailer, otherwise they would not want to see the film. A lot of trailers (usually longer 2-3 minute trailers) provide too many clues to the end and this often spoils it for the audience as they have a rough idea of what will happen as they have seen it from the trailer. Therefore, Annie and I have focused more on the first 3 stages of Todorov's theory as that is what will be shown in the trailer and will persuade them to want to watch the film.
