To make the initial stomach prosthetic, I started off by making a simple circular latex structure. I did this by getting a flat surface and applying 5 layers of liquid latex onto the circular area, as seen in the image to the left.
Once 5 layers had been applied, I applied a layer of cream makeup to make the application skin coloured. This I added by using a sponge and my foundation cream.

Once applied, I used baby powder to lighten the colouring and then put another coating of liquid latex over the top to seal the prosthetic and its colouring. At this point, I powdered the prosthetic again and slowly removed it from the flat surface, powdering underneath as i pealed it off to stop it from sticking.

Once the prosthetic had been created, I now wanted to practice applying it to a model for when we need to do it for our film trailer.Applying the prosthetic to the stomach with liquid latex and letting it dry, I cut the prosthetic appropriately to look like the skin was ripped open on the stomach, as shown in the image to the right.
Then, I used colouring such as reds and browns to colour the real stomach and inside sections of the prosthetic.

Taking toilet paper, I started to fill the application with coloured tissue, using the technique of rolling it up into long strips to look like intestines . At this point it didn't matter that all of the tissue wasn't coloured, the fake blood would do most of that colouring. Before the blood, I used my bruise wheel to add colouring around the wound to show bruising and discolouration.
The final act of adding the fake blood really made the effect look realistic. To the right you can see what the prosthetic looked like when the blood was first applied. To add to realism, I also took a stipple sponge and dabbed fake blood around the wound, producing the image shown below of which I feel looks very realistic and gruesome- very fit for purpose within our film trailer.
This is a close up of the prosthetic that I took that I feel really portrays the realism in the application and shows the gore that was produced.
I am very happy with this practical investigation of the opened up stomach effect that we will use in our film trailer.
