Inspiration for Sloth in Mordred Road

Annie and I visited Mordred Road in Catford, Lewisham, however it had recently been closed down due to construction work. Fortunately, the surrounding roads also had prefabricated houses so we were able to investigate and take inspiration from these. None of the prefab houses were abandoned, but we were able to take pictures of interesting things.

Most of the houses looked like this; beige, with 4 panelled windows, chained wire fencing, bins and grass. This could juxtapose how Sloth is trying hard not to be like others; she is comfortable and content with her squatting lifestyle which most think of as inappropriate and difficult.

Annie investigating the area.
The trees are lifeless and dull, surrounded by overgrown over grown bushes, and we could possibly have a clip where Sloth walks past here to emphasize how run down the area is in which she resides.

Inside this house was a vast collection of everything - as if the person was a 'hoarder', with a mobility scooter outside. Hoarding is a good idea for the sloth character as it further emphasizes their carelessness and how they may be an impulsive buyer. However, a sloth is usually someone who is not materialistic so hoarding may not fit in well with Sloth's character representation.

At the side of this house was an old, shabby brown leather sofa which is reminiscent of the Sloth character - lazy, careless, irresponsible. As discussed in this post, the books were used to soak up water, so we could possibly include an object which is used for something other than its actual purpose to emphasize Sloth's versatility in terms of squatting.

In the gardens of many homes, there was a lot of fly tipping which especially reminded me of a sloth's characteristics. There could possibly be quick scene where Sloth litters by throwing away a black bag full of rubbish. This would properly emphasize the sloth's sin for the audience's understanding.
