For the final shot in the trailer that we are producing, Raman and I want a shock shot where a scary image is shown.Currently, our ideas are that there will be an image of Jesus in the final scene who's face will suddenly turn demonic and scary with appropriate sound effects to add to the scare effect. We chose Jesus to add to the religious aspect of the film as we are looking at the supernatural genre, specifically demons, and a religious aspect is a good link to this within the conventions.
As this is just a practical trial, I chose two images online, one of jesus and one of a scary image, both shown above.
Initially placing both images onto photoshop, I started editing the scary image first, changing the colour pallet and also cutting off the parts of the image not wanted.
This I did by looking at the colour balance and changing it appropriately and then also using the rubber tool with a fade overlay. Now that I had the overlay of the demonic face that would replace jesus' face, I needed to complete the animation.
To do this I started duplicating frames and slowly start making a stop motion form of effect of jesus' face slowly fading into the demonic one. This took a long time as each frame would follow the next and would need to look as smooth as possible for a sleek effect.
Below are screen shots of the duplication of layers and the fading effect i applied using the fading tool on the demonic face image:
Once I had the frames I needed, I could then start the actual animation. To do this I opened up an animation timeline bridge and input all of the shots into it, as shown below:
However, I realised at this point I needed more frames of fading for a smoother and longer animation. Creating more of these frames, I added them into the animation time line:
Regarding using this visual effect in our film, I feel this would be very impressive and complex to put into our trailer. It would be used as the final scare shot at the end of the trailer and finalise the overview of what it is like. I am also very happy with the result of this.
