After research into locations for the sloth scenes that Raman carried out, both Raman and I decided to visit a location that we would visit the most promising location that she found, Mordred Road. However, after arriving there, we found that the road had been closed due to the fact that the buildings that we were intending to look at were being demolished. This was really disappointing for us both as this is the only location that we have to find that is becoming a problem.
Although this happened, however, we were able to take a number of different shots of the surrounding areas around the specific location that we wanted to shoot. Below are some of the photographs taken. These photos show the location to be unkempt, and generally perfect for what we want for our mise en scene in Sloths scene. Unfortunately, it looked like all of the places we looked at were owned by someone. In the next few days, more research into locations for Sloth will be carried out.
Above is an image of one of the side gardens. An abandoned settee has been left outside, and the greenery is overgrowing drastically. This is effective for what we would want in our Sloth scene to represent Sloths laziness and general lack of motivation to do anything- managing the garden or disposing of the settee appropriately.
This is a general shot of the type of houses that we would have looked inside if we were allowed down Mordred Road where we knew abandoned buildings were situated.
This is a shot of Raman carrying out an investigation with me into the surrounding area of Mordred Road.
This is another shot of one of the gardens of a larger house than seen previously, just before reaching the closed off section of Mordred Road. As seen in the photograph, full rubbish bags and discarded doors and general unwanted items are scattered around the garden. This, along with the unkempt garden with overgrowing grass, weeds and small trees links to the idea of Sloths living place; somewhere where he has made absolutely no effort in keeping it tidy, clean or nice, and takes for granted what he has.
Even though this location investigation didn't go as planed, it wasn't a complete failure. We were able to develop on our ideas for what the mise en scene of Sloths location could look like and meanings behind why he does this. It was interesting, also, to see how some people live and the conditions that they do.
