- The red and black colour scheme matches and connotes the film's horror genre.
- The 'Before The Conjuring There Was ANNABELLE' persuades the audience to watch this because The Conjuring was a popular film, and this reference will make the audience think Annabelle will be good as well.
- Showing half of the Annabelle doll's face crying blood makes the audience question why an inanimate object is crying, let alone crying blood. This further persuades the audience to watch the film in order to get that question answered.
- There are only three lines of movie titles which keeps the poster looking neat, and puts more attention on the picture and the name of the film - thus, making it more memorable so the audience are more likely to watch the film.
- The large black empty space to the left implies mystery, making the poster and the concept of the film more intriguing. Usually, film posters manipulate the entire space as much as possible in order to make the audience catch a gist of the plot to persuade them, so it is interesting that the Annabelle has not done that.
Negatives:
- Though I have just said the blank space is unusual in a good way, the producers could have put an interesting, gripping slogan in that space as there would be more attention on it because the area is blank.
Overall, I really like this poster, there is not much I can criticise. I like the use of half the dolls face with the blood tears because it makes the audience question why a doll would be crying - and why it is blood. Also, the black and red colour scheme denote the horror genre and imply an element of mystery with the blank space on the left of the poster. Also, the use of tge red film title and the white subtitle is effective because the two different colours make the poster look more neat as well as the red title fitting with the blood tears and further denoting the horror genre.
