I would like the Sloth's living area to be shabby and dirty to emphasize how unmotivated they are to improve themselves. For example, in Fight Club The Narrator is living in a derelict house because he is anti-consumerist, however he has a computer and books in order to help him maintain Fight Club. The wallpaper is coming off, the blinds are broken, the fire place is burnt out, the rug is dirty and worn out and the floorboards are jagged and not polished. When it rains the characters use buckets and the previous owner's books and diaries to soak up the water (in the picture there are more books under the window). Everything in this room is unkempt and thrown around carelessly which emphasizes the character's laziness and unwillingness to improve his living conditions. This is what we would the Sloth's room to look like as it clearly tells the audience that he is careless and inattentive.
Additionally, in Se7en the room the Sloth is being kept inside is also worn down and disheveled - in fact, the entire building is like this as you can see in this video. Low-key lighting is used to further emphasize the dark tone of the scene (as well as the entire film) and how the Sloth sinner has been abandoned. The low key lighting is effective as it adds mystery to the scene because the audience, as well as the characters, cannot see much - therefore, building tension and suspense to what the character's will find here. There are dozens of tree car fresheners hanging from the ceiling which, when the audience initially see this, is confusing. However, this is justified when the audience discover that Sloth has been kept there for exactly a year and has rashes and boils all over his body as a result of being tied to the dirty bed for so long. Similar to the room in Fight Club, here the blinds are also broken, the wallpaper is worn out and peeling off and the bed is old and dirty.
For our Sloth's room, we must have the typical features such as broken blinds, dirty bed/mattress, wallpaper/paint peeling off as they denote laziness and negligence to the audience because our trailer will be short so the audience must be able to identify the Sloth immediately. We could, perhaps, include books and a computer/laptop/smart phone (as seen in Fight Club) as a way to indicate that the Sloth simply is lazy, not poor, because he/she is able to afford these things but is not willing to improve their lives - they prefer to be lazy and live in a dirty, old place than get a job and improve themselves. There could also be graffiti on the wall (as in Se7en where 'Sloth' is written on the wall), however it could perhaps be symbols or gang-style graffiti to accentuate the kind of run-down area he/she is living in. Also, similar to Fight Club, we could put buckets around the room to indicate how rain leaks through the ceiling, but, again, Sloth does not care about fixing this as they are too negligent. Additionally, the lighting we use must be low-key as this adds mystery and conforms to both horror and supernatural conventions of low-key lighting, and it also accentuates the dark, dirty living conditions to fully emphasize the sin of sloth.
