Positives:
- Two main characters shown - well known actors so this persuades their fans to watch the film. And their names are bigger than the slogan which is in a similar font to the film title so the poster looks professional and kempt.
- 'A David Fincher film' also persuades his fans and film-lovers as he had previously made Oscar-worthy films such as Se7en and Alien3 which tells the audience that Fight Club will also be of good quality.
- Title is in a simple font and capitalised which fits in with the other titles. 3 words - simple and easy to read when on average people just glance at posters. Slogan fits in with picture: mischief links to Norton's expression and soap which Pitt is holding. The words 'Mischief' and 'Mayhem' also refers to things that occur in the book and film, however if the audience have not seen it they would not have guessed so.
- Production companies and movie titles make the poster look professional.
- Pitt has been made bigger than Norton so it almost overpowers him - this connotes control, especially paired with his stern expression. This is clever as it links in with the film's plot.
- The soap adds a comical aspect, especially as it juxtaposes Pitt's serious expression and adds further comedy in the slogan as 'MISCHIEF' and 'MAYHEM' seems serious, but then is followed by 'SOAP'.
Negatives:
- Though the title is very self-explanatory, the main character is holding soap , which is also mentioned in the slogan. So the poster does not provide an valid indication of what the film is about.
- A variety of colours have been used which is slightly overwhelming: the main two being green and black, but there are white, orange and red titles, pink soap and a blue top. However, Norton's top blends in with the greenish brick wall which neatens the poster.
Overall, I like this poster as the two main characters dominate the poster and this film is very much centred on their lives and how they construct the Fight Club. Also, I like the use of humour in the title as the film uses black humour, however our film is serious so we will not be including any humour. Additionally, I like how Pitt is larger than Norton and the connotations of it, as mentioned, and Annie and I could use this technique - the demon priest could be made bigger than the characters because he is the central character to our film who controls the fate of the characters' lives just as Tyler Durden somewhat controls The Narrator.
